The Space
Floris Villa is an architect’s residence designed as an inventive and expressive home that reflects creative freedom, craftsmanship, and thoughtful material exploration. Conceived as a living example for the design community, the house blends contemporary sensibilities with traditional values. Natural building materials form the foundation of the interiors, creating spaces that feel stylish, niche, and deeply rooted. Exposed brickwork, concrete surfaces, teak wood, and curated finishes come together to create a warm yet bold architectural language that feels intentional and timeless.
The Ask
The objective for Floris Villa was crystal clear, to design a home that pushes creative boundaries while remaining elegant and liveable. The client wanted the residence to stand as a strong design statement, showcasing innovation, material honesty, and refined aesthetics. The brief emphasised the use of natural materials, a fusion of modern and traditional design morals, and interiors that feel luxurious without losing their architectural soul.
The Journey
The design journey involved extensive research and experimentation, especially in developing custom brick patterns for the ground floor drawing room and basement living area. Skilled local artisans executed exposed brickwork over nearly 20 days, while larger concrete tiles were introduced to balance texture and scale. Italian marble tops, gold-accented metal furniture, embroidered curtains, and walls inspired by Le Corbusier’s polychromy added layers of richness. Bespoke furniture, digital printed glass wardrobe shutters, and carefully curated lighting completed the interiors.
The Result
Floris Villa emerged as a refined architect’s home that balances innovation with warmth. The final design feels opulent yet grounded, where exposed materials, bespoke details, and thoughtful lighting create a residence that is expressive, functional, and architecturally inspiring.
